Janet Welsh – Volunteer of the year 2014

We are delighted to honour Janet Welsh with this prestigious award for her contribution to Swimming in Warwickshire.

Janet Welsh

Janet Welsh, seen here, being presented with the Eddie Blight memorial cup by past president Dave Corbett at the Coventry & District Championships in October.

Janet has been a stalwart of Leamington Swimming Club since 1979, trained as a Teacher taking children at all levels at least four classes a week.  She is central to the management of the Club’s teaching section; from session planning to staffing rotas: without Janet, it simply would not happen.

Janet has contributed hugely to the development of the body of volunteers, especially young volunteers on which the Club relies.

Qualified as a Level 2 judge, Janet supports not only the Club, the local swimming community, galas up to Midland regional level, but also mentors and organises courses for new officials.

Janet is also a great ambassador for swimming holding a variety of posts for the Warwickshire ASA Executive since 1996, including Education Secretary and was President of both Warwickshire ASA and Coventry & District Swimming Association in 2011-12.

Janet was a member of the Club’s Committee for six years, ensuring that the needs of teaching are fully represented.  She has helped revamp the Club’s Championship Galas, instigated and sponsored the annual handicap galas. In all things, Janet gives of herself tirelessly.
